VIRUSES have become the biggest threat to your computer. This is a direct result of the growth of the INTERNET and E-MAIL.

Most Viruses arrive on your computer via E-MAIL ...usually, but not always in the form of an attachment. Some viruses require you to open the attachment, while others, simply require that you click on the message.

Once released onto your system, depending on the Virus concerned, it can do any number of things to your computer. Some Viruses will do little more than cause minor irritation, other viruses can have major consequences for you, your data, and in some cases, even to your finances, as they can detect your credit card details. Most of the more dangerous Viruses don't alert you in any way, to the fact that they are even on your Computer.

If you have ever bought anything on-line, (including Airline Tickets) some viruses can read your credit card details, including the expiry date, even if the transaction was carried out months ago. It then e-mails the details off to the writer of the Virus, without you even being aware that it has done it.

Other Viruses will, once on your system, read the addresses of everyone in your contact list, and without your knowledge, mail itself off to each and every one of them. Now they are infected too, as will be everyone on their contact lists. A good Anti-Virus program on your computer can greatly improve your chances of catching these rogue programmes before they get a chance to infect your system.
